Vaping in the ACT - Update

30 November 2022

Today, Minister Stephen-Smith provided an update to the Assembly on the work surrounding vaping that is being undertaken into my motion from 2021.

The standout of the update is that the ACT Health Directorate is working with the Education Directorate to develop a toolkit of evidence-based curriculum resources and education materials on e-cigarettes for Year 7 and 8 educators and students. It is expected to be available to all secondary schools by Term 2 in 2023.

Additionally, the team at Health are developing a communication strategy for a public health campaign - an approach that will be informed by research undertaken with young Canberrans.

This is a great outcome for the community. I am incredibly happy that the Government is taking this issue seriously

I will continue to advocate on this issue and work with the Minister to achieve some great outcomes for the community.
