In March the Prime Minister revealed the words that will form the question put to the Australian people later this year in a referendum. These words will enshrine an Indigenous Voice to Parliament in the Constitution and will ensure Indigenous Australians are recognised as the First Peoples of this land and are genuinely represented in decision-making processes.

An exciting time for the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

It’s been an exciting few months for the Voice campaign and a significant time for all Indigenous Australians. With the Referendum Working Group releasing the proposed alteration to the Constitution and Attorney General Mark Dreyfus introducing a bill in Parliament to set the wheels in motion for a referendum later this year.

I’ve met with Indigenous leaders to discuss the importance of the Voice.

In March I met with Northern Territory Senator Malarndirri McCarthy to share stories and discuss the important of the Voice to Parliament to her and her community in the NT and for all Indigenous Australians. Over the coming months I will continue to talk to and engage with Canberra’s local Indigenous community as well as leaders from all over Australia to discuss how the Voice will be implemented and how it will provide Indigenous people with a direct input into political decision-making.
