Renewable Energy Innovation Report

06 June 2022

Ā

The Environment, Climate Change and Biodiversity (ECCB) Committee, on which I’m Chair, recently released our report on the Inquiry into Renewable Energy Innovation in the ACT.

We received over 20 submissions during public consultation and heard from many passionate and knowledgeable people and organisations. This is such an inspiring topic, and I’m always available to chat about ideas and collaborate to progress opportunities in this space.
/
Here are a few of my favourite recommendations from the report:
Ā
  • šŸ“‹ ACT Government to commission innovative social science research and methodologies to understand how to transition sectors (ie – transport, gas for cooking) or parts of community that may have significant infrastructure and behaviour change barriers to reducing their emissions;

  • 🚧 ACT Government support for the ACT Renewables Hub to have long term objectives and projects that focus on outcomes to address social, technological, environmental and labour market barriers and innovation to support ACT leadership in the renewable energy field;

  • šŸ—ŗ Funding for the ACT Renewables Hub to conduct future mapping of the ACT renewable ecosystem, with a goal of identifying gaps and growth areas;

  • šŸ’² ACT Government continue to look at delivering R&D and start-up grant schemes and funding that promote innovation and diversity in the renewable energy sector;
  • šŸ¤ ACT Government – through its plans/ strategies/ frameworks/ grants – to ensure prioritisation and promotion of diversity and inclusivity;

  • šŸ”‹ ACT Government to provide more detail and clear strategies on its implementation of the big batteries program, including that a diverse range of participants take up battery storage; and

  • 🚲 ACT Government to support development of an integrated transport network including the installation of charging hubs for personal mobility devices such as electric bikes and scooters.
